The Archives of Historical Records of the Toruń Diocese was established by the decree of the Bishop of Toruń, Andrzej Suski, on June 24, 2001. The basis for the erection of the central historical archive for the Toruń Diocese, established in 1992, were the provisions of the Code of Canon Law. The basic functions of the Toruń diocesan archive were collecting, storing and making available the archives. The bishop decree obligated the Archives to issue a statute and regulations, which were to define the rules of its operation and the use of archival materials.
