The Przemyśl diocese of the Latin rite was erected around 1340. Pope Gregory XI, by bull Debitum pastoralis officii of February 13, 1375, he included it in the newly created metropolis of Halych. Pope John Paul II, in the bull Totus Tuus Poloniae populus of March 25, 1992, established it as a metropolis for the Przemyśl archdiocese and the diocese of Rzeszów and Zamość-Lubaczów.
