The State Archives in Wrocław was established on the ruins of the Staatsarchiv zu Breslau operating in pre-war Wrocław. In 1811, in connection with the secularization of Silesian monasteries, the Archives of the Silesian Province in Wrocław (Das Schlesische Provinzialarchiv) were established, whose task was to secure a huge number of books, works of art and archives accumulated by monasteries in Lower and Upper Silesia over the past centuries.
