Archives of the Department of the Rhone and the city of Lyon (Archives Départementales du Rhône) (France)
Like all the Departmental Archives, the Rhône Archives were born from the law of 5 Brumaire Year V requiring the central departments of the department to "collect in the capital of the department all titles and papers depending on deposits belonging to the Republic". Previously, each administration kept its own archives, resulting in a great dispersion.
